Edathua Pally is a pilgrimage center, situated at Kuttanad, Alappuzha.The Edathua Pally (St. George Forane church at Edathua) stands on the bank of the river Pampa, sixteen miles southeast Alappuzha.The Edathuva church in the name of St. George is a popular church built in the year 1810 AD. This church is famous for the feast of St. George known as “Edathua Perunnal” celebrated every year in the month of Medam (April-May). It takes place from 27th April till 7th of May. Though the festival lasts for 11 days, only last couple of days carry all the aspects of a major festival. Hence calendars reckon the 6th of May as the feast day. During the feast, the statue of St.George, decked in gold, was carried out in procession and placed on the dais at the centre of the Basilica. Processions were held everyday, and dazzling fireworks display highlighted in the initial as well as concluding day’s rituals. Devotees from all parts of the State attended the feast. As in all other festivals typical of Kerala, the church ground swarmed with vendors and stalls selling all kinds of things from food to utensils to jewellery. There were cultural performances every evening. The edathua Feast is held from April 27 to May 14 every year.This annual feast is very famous and thousand of pilgrims come here during the feast.
St George church Edathua is a very famous church for curing illness and also for get rid of snake related issues (sarpa dosham).People of all castes visit the church and offer their prayers and the belief is that the prayers at the church will cure mental ailments. Church is old built, well maintained, inside church if you enter you can feel the positive energy. Church outsides have been fully paved with paving tiles so that on raining season also its clean. All religion people comes to Edathua church for offering their prayers and get rid of their worries.The architecture of Church is very beautiful and there are good wall paintings inside the church and peaceful environment.
